Tile Ideas for Small Spaces

Wondering how you can make your small space look bigger? The sleek design of tile has a unique ability to impact the spacial appearance of a room. The size, color, and pattern of the tile all are factors to consider when you want a small space to look larger. We hope this inspires you to turn a constrained small area into a sweet nook that you love!

Here are 7 creative tile ideas for small spaces:

Accents:

Sometimes a small space doesn't have room for a large tile project, this is a great opportunity to tile a unique accent. By creating a focal point in a small area, you give the eye room to wander, making the space seem large. We love this example of creating an all-white interior design with a pop of tile color on a kitchen island.

Penny Rounds:

The sweetest little tile shape, Penny Rounds. Their petite size makes normally-sized objects seem much larger - look at how huge this succulent looks! Since this tile shape has such a fun vibe to them, it's a great project to play with glaze and grout color.

Penny Rounds - 32 Canton Jade.

Niches:

Niches create a put-together look that makes your entire interior design seem well thought out. Not only are niches beautiful, they can also be functionally necessary for small spaces. From showers to built-ins, niches can be designed in any room of your home.

Bright Color:

Adding a bright color not only wakes up the aesthetic, but visually tricks you into thinking the space is larger. It's just like paint - darker tile will make the room feel smaller, lighter tile will make it appear larger. In addition to the bright color, including variation in the glaze color can be a great way to create two-dimensional depth.

Bold Design:

Similar to accents, creating a bold design for your tile will give the eye area to move. Having bold design doesn't mean you have to create a super custom tile project (although you definitely can). This subway tile shower with a Cobalt Blue Moroccan Fish Scale accent is the perfect example of how you can bring in a unique and interesting tile layout with limited space.

Floor-to-ceiling Tile:

By adding a tile statement wall that is floor-to-ceiling you'll be able to elongate the space of a room versus going horizontal where you'd be boxing the space in. This concept is relatable to clothing, if you're wearing stripes they are often more flattering vertically rather than horizontally.

Large Moroccan Fish Scales - 3R Lemon, 3W Lemon, 1030 Cornmeal, 24 Dandelion, 128 Wheat, 910 Desert, 64 Amber.

Unique Floors:

Having a uniquely tiled floor makes a room feel special. If the room is small, so be it! Make it feel like a special little nook where you want to spend all of your time rather than a constrained space. This bathroom is the perfect example of how caring for a small room with beautiful hardware and a unique floor creates a space that you'll never want to leave.
