6 Niche Ideas for Chic Shower Shelving

6 Niche Ideas for Chic Shower Shelving

Key to a decluttered shower? It's all about the niche! Having shelving in your shower is an important way to organize and style your bathroom. Corner shelving can collect water, removable shelving and shower caddies often look haphazard after a beautiful remodel. That's why we always recommend adding a built-in tiled niche. We have so many cool examples of this with our tile - for this blog we've narrowed it down to 6 of our favorite ways to add this chic shower shelving to your next remodel.

1. Contrasting Shapes

Contrasting shapes in similar colors is a beautiful way to show off your design chops. It's minimal and chic yet eye-catching and interesting. On top of it being a unique look, this idea is great for those who want to include one of our more pricey shapes but can't afford to cover the entire shower in it.

2. Contrasting Colors

Add a compelling pop of color by using a contrasting hue on the back wall of your niche. This is perfect for those who want something special but want to remain somewhat low-key with the overall color palette. We adore having a simple neutral subway tile contrasted with a bright glaze color in a fun shape like Moroccan Fish Scales.

3. Seamless Transition

This niche shows that a little bit of planning can go a long way. We carefully measured and cut these Moroccan Fish Scales so that they seamlessly transition from the wall, across the sides and along the back of the niche. This deep teal mermaid-inspired shower gets an A+ from us!

4. Schluter Trim

Adding a clean line of Schluter trim is a great way to finish the edging of your tile and niche. There are a variety of metal types, sizes, and styles to choose from to make this finishing piece your own! Whatever you choose, the smooth metal contrasted with our tile is sure to bring a modern and sharp style to your shower. Extra points: use metals that work with the hardware on your vanity. If you're feeling extra, try mixing metals for a trendy look.

5. Bullnose Edging

Our Bullnose trim is an excellent choice for those that don't want extra attention added to the finishing of their trim. The piece is made by curving and glazing the exposed end of your tile. This creates a smooth transition from the sides of the niche to the shower wall. We think this look pairs well with a traditional or minimalist style bathroom.

6. V-Cap Finishing

Last but certainly not least, V-Caps. This trim makes a clean finishing line, offering diagonal cuts in in the corners for a level of detail that won't go unnoticed! This sharp look can be simple like below, or you could take it to the next level by using a contrasting color for a beautiful frame around your niche.

How is a niche any less susceptible to water collection than corner shelving? How do you keep water and soap scum from pooling in the grout lines?
