The Design

The tried and true river motif backsplash has been a fan favorite amongst our clients for years. The design was born when our besties at Construction2Style wanted something classic yet bold for their kitchen back in 2018. Since then, this organic design has evolved into many forms that use vibrant colors, mixed shapes, multiple glaze finishes, and even custom tile planters! Here are just a few of our favorites:

1. Classically Elegant River Backsplash

A touch of luxury flows through this kitchen with this statement river backsplash. The stunning feathered ombré is made up of handmade tile in Medium Diamonds and 2"x6" Subway Tile in neutral hues creating a classic yet trendy vibe. Typically, the "river" of diamonds starts at the base of the countertop and flows up through the range hood. However, this client chose to have the river go all the way up through the window and onto the adjacent wall making this backsplash proof that the options for an ombré river backsplash are endless.

2. Coastal River Ombré Design

One of our recent favorite takes on the classic river motif is this coastal backsplash with our Navy Medium Diamonds being the star of the show against our glossy white 2"x6" Subway tile. Similar to the backsplash above, we love how this client carried the design to the other side of the kitchen with a river flowing in the opposite direction under the bar area. This intentional detail adds uniformity to this inherently organic ombré design and completes the full look.

3. Colorful Craftsman Ombré Backsplash

This client took a uniquely colorful twist on our classic river motif by adding blues and green hues to their ombré design. We adore how they carried the colorful vibe to the other side of the kitchen by creating their own blend of glazes with pops of colorful hues. This vibrant diamond craftsman backsplash transformed this kitchen into an artful masterpiece that's just as colorful as it is captivating. Each tile is a brushstroke of personality, creating a mosaic of charm that's impossible to ignore.

4. Light and Airy Pastel River Backsplash

Amanda from Heartbeet Kitchen added a sprinkle of sweetness to their kitchen with this pastel perfection. We’ve seen the river motif design in neutral variations time and time again, but in this stunning stove splash, we opted for a pastel color palette to create a light and airy feel to this modern kitchen. A unique twist on our classic river inspired backsplash, this dark and moody design took us all by a storm. This beautiful backsplash offers a modern and sleek vibe by playing with different glaze finishes and bold color choices. We adore this project because it shows that you can go brilliantly bold while maintaining a timeless look with a neutral palette.
