KBIS 2025: Pushing Design Limits with Mercury Mosaics & Café Appliances

KBIS 2025: Pushing Design Limits with Mercury Mosaics & Café Appliances

“This kitchen looks great on you” set the tone for the Café Appliances Experience at KBIS 2025.

2025 was also the year we shattered limits and took design to the next level. And who better to do that with than a brand that’s been in our corner for a solid seven years—Café Appliances. Every year, Café gets ready for what they call “The Oscars of the Appliance World,” and let me tell you, I didn’t fully grasp the magic until I experienced it firsthand. This wasn’t just a showcase; it was a statement. When I stepped into the Café booth portal, I fully got it. We weren’t just showing up—we were setting the tone. Bold, handcrafted tile met fearless appliance design, and it caught the right eyes. When Martha Stewart herself proclaims, “2025 Will be the Year of Bold, Colorful Kitchen Appliances,” you know you’re onto something legendary.

Collaborating with Creative Director T.K. Wismer on three of the four vignettes in the
Café Appliances booth felt like a natural rhythm—like we’d been designing together for years. She laid out her vision, sparked the inspiration, and we dove into our treasure trove of color and pattern, bringing it to life. The biggest creative challenge?
Autumn Eve.We needed a color outside our standard palette and a pattern that had never existed before. But here’s the thing—custom is our playground, and we thrive in the unknown. This was our moment to push the boundaries, and we didn’t just meet the challenge—we owned it.

Spring Plaza Kitchen: Fresh Florals & Vibrant Colors

This backsplash wasn’t just about tile—it was about bringing a vision to life, one handcrafted piece at a time. We channeled the charm of vintage needlepoint, weaving together a 2”x2” floral mosaic that carried the essence of both nostalgia and reinvention. Set against Café Appliances’ matte white and brushed brass finishes, the palette bloomed—rosy pinks, lush lavender, fresh greens, soft whites, and airy blues, all grounded by striking reds and unexpected bursts of orange. The result? A space that pulses with the energy of Spring, where color, texture, and function come together in perfect harmony.

Summer Romance Kitchen: Ombre Dreams & Playful Curves

For summer, we leaned into the fluid beauty of our Moroccan Fish Scales Wave pattern, letting Art Nouveau’s signature flowing lines and feminine curves take center stage. The color palette? Pure poetry—cooling hues of soft blues, misty greens, and moody greys met the warmth of parchment, dusky pinks, and muted sage. Inspired by the delicate washes of watercolor paintings, this blend created a space that was equal parts tranquil and luxurious, an environment designed to soothe and inspire.

The Summer palette found its perfect match in Café’s Matte White Appliances, featured in their 2025 Hero Kitchen. This wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about tapping into the pulse of global design, drawing from Milan’s latest influences and forward-thinking 25/26 trend forecasts. To elevate the tile even further, we arranged the colors in an artisan ombré, allowing the hues to melt seamlessly into one another, like sunlight shifting through the day. The result? A space where Art Nouveau met modern design in a way that felt elevated yet effortless, bold yet serene. Maximalism with restraint, where ornamental and organic elements intertwined—florals, wood tones, and fluid lines creating a dreamlike balance of sophistication and romance.

Autumn Eve Kitchen: Moody Hues & Flowing Shapes

This kitchen is where depth and drama meet warmth and invitation. We leaned into lush, rich tones that don’t just set the mood—they wrap you in it, designing a space that embraces you with richness while making you feel right at home. By expanding beyond traditional earth tones, we crafted a palette that radiates richness and luxury, like the perfect pairing of a crisp autumn evening and a glass of full-bodied red. Café’s matte black appliances became the anchor, draped in sumptuous materials and hues that turn everyday cooking into a curated experience. This wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about creating a space that embodies the soul of the season—where artistry, warmth, and bold design come together to inspire

The Fall backsplash was the final act in our trio of vignettes, and with that came the pressure to make it unforgettable. What started in one direction took a bold 180, landing in a space of pure creative magic—I couldn’t be more thrilled with where we ended up. T.K. Wismer’s vision was razor-sharp, pushing both Café Appliances and Mercury Mosaics into fresh, uncharted territory. This design didn’t just complement Café’s Matte Black and brushed copper appliances—it elevated them. The foundation was deep, moody, and utterly magnetic, with cabinetry dressed in Sherwin Williams’ Blackberry SW 7577, a shade that’s as intoxicating as a bold cabernet and as lush as a just-bloomed velvet rose. This hue doesn’t whisper; it commands the room, setting the stage for a backsplash that blends craftsmanship with pure, unapologetic artistry.

Our custom-cut wavy backsplash added movement and depth to the space threading all these elements together. Based on how well received this tile design moment was, we will be seeing this design again. Stay tuned for the official roll out later this year.
