How-To Clean Ceramic Tile

How-To Clean Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is an excellent choice for high-traffic spaces. Its durability and simplicity to maintain make it a no-brainer for your bathroom, kitchen, or floor. There are a few steps we recommend to ensure that that your tile stays as good as new for as long as possible.

Here are some tips and tricks on how to clean a ceramic tile floor:

Sealing your tile:

Sealing helps protect your tile from messes and makes grout easier to clean. When your tile is first installed, it's recommended that you allow the grout to cure for 72 hours or 3 days prior to sealing. You may purchase a sealer from your local hardware store - be sure that it does not add an additional sheen to the tile as this can change the glaze color. Apply the sealer with a soft sponge or towel in a circular motion. Check your sealer about once a year by placing a few drops of water on your tile - if the color darkens, you should seal your tile again.

Maintaining your tile:

Cleaning your ceramic tile is quite easy: vacuum or sweep weekly, then clean with a mild all-purpose cleaner, or vinegar-water, using a soft sponge or towel as needed. The grout is the key to making your tile look clean. You can buy a grout-specific cleaner or create a diy paste with baking soda and water. Let the baking soda paste sit overnight and use a nylon brush to clean hard to reach areas - never use a metal brush as this could scrape the tile and grout. With these easy steps your tile will keep looking beautifully glossy and stay as "good-as-new."

My wife has been having trouble whitening the tiles of our kitchen. It really helped when you said to vacuum or sweep lightly then clean with all-purpose vinegar cleaner using a sponge or towel. Thank you for the advice on creating a DIY paste with baking soda and water. I’ll call professional so we can get help cleaning the tile.
