Wadena Location
We are so excited to give a soft introduction to the newest member of the Mercury Mosaics family: our Wadena location. Like for many small businesses, the past two years at Mercury Mosaics have been filled with ups, downs and everything in between. Luckily, our founder, Mercedes Austin, and executive team took our strategic planning to the next level and had any road bumps paved quickly, efficiently and flawlessly, making that road to success clearer than it was before.
Mercedes was challenged about the future by her previous professor and mentor Glenn Ford to go from “I like my job” to “What’s next?" "With so many budding, beautiful people coming into Mercury Mosaics, it was no longer about me, I had this new mission to build a place that could be that employer I wish was out there as a creative when I was kicking off my career. I needed to create what was next.”
Amidst a global pandemic, Mercedes finalized not one, but two new studio spaces: our Northeast Design Studio and our Wadena Studio. Located 60 miles away from our roots in Northeast, Minneapolis, this art-centric city is home to over 100 hand-painted murals decorating downtown buildings. We felt our handmade tile studio would fit right in.
Ready to Ship Handmade Tile
This new studio in Wadena is the how behind our standard Ready to Ship tile. We've narrowed down 36 of our all time fan favorites to make sure we always have them ready to go out the door whenever the need for handmade tile hits. Mercedes says she "really wanted to take the risk of opening a second location dedicated to our most popular tile because sometimes when people are working on projects, they need the tile “yesterday”. We totally get it. Planning a remodeling project is emotional, overwhelming, and expensive so Mercedes thought, "Why not build a small model of tile making to have a few classic options on the shelf so someone can splurge and get a little handmade tile art in their space?" We're all about it.
The Wadena location makes this all possible. These brilliant artisans have taken the art of handmade tile and turned it into a science. With a team of 8, and growing quickly, we are excited to see how our sister location in Wadena takes off. While this location is still in it's beginning stages, they have given our small but mighty handmade tile company even more to be proud of. From the trial and tribulations that our previous studios faced, Mercedes got to set up Wadena like a dream tile bakery with a lot of room to grow but she says she'd "be leaving something out if she didn’t explicitly state: Wadena gets it DONE."

1. Sea Mist Moroccan Fish Scales
This glossy green glaze is the crème de la crème when it comes to handmade tile. If we had to choose one glaze and shape combo for every bathroom remodel, it'd be our Large Moroccan Fish Scales in 1017E Sea Mist. It's most definitely on the list of what Mercedes calls our “blue jeans, white t-shirts, little black dresses” – our tile staples.

2. Bluegrass Subway Tile
Another fan favorite is our 3"x6" Subway Tile - 1036W Bluegrass. These beauties speak for themselves. With the ability to transform an otherwise white space, we adore the earthy gloss our deep teal Bluegrass glaze gives off. If you're in a crunch for a pop of handmade art, our Wadena crew has you covered. Visit our Ready to Ship page to browse the selections.
