The Arts District of NE Minneapolis has always been near and dear to our hearts. It's been the home base of Mercury Mosaics since our beginning. Our Founder, Mercedes Austin, had her first studio here when she was creating custom mosaic pieces for clients. Over 15 years later, we have a historic sunlit factory filled with 30+ Tile Elves, creating tile projects that are bigger and more beautiful than we ever could have dreamed! That being said, it's such a joy to spread the tile love around the neighborhood where our company came to fruition. For this adorable home that you can rent on Airbnb, we tiled two spaces: the kitchen backsplash and the shower walls. Both installs build off the original Craftsman style of the building, using Subway Tile in varying washed teals.
Get ready to fall in love with a modern way to pull off classic design with these two Craftsman-inspired Subway Tile installs.
Kitchen: 3”x6” Subway Tile - 913 Old Copper. Bathroom: 4”x4” Subway Tile - 22E Blue Opal.
Blue Opal Bathroom Shower Wall
If you're looking for the detail of hand-painted tile while sticking with a timeless look, our 22E Blue Opal glaze is a beautiful option. This glaze has high variation, meaning, depending on how thick the glaze was applied and where it sits in our kiln, it will have a slightly different hue. This results in a stunning variation with organic coloring, on some pieces you can even see the brush strokes from the Tile Elves' application. The homeowners completed the look with a juxtaposition of bold patterned floor tile, modern accents, and adorable potted plants.
Square Subway Tile
Square Subway tile offers a fresh take on a classic shape, you can stack it, stagger it, or even tilt the tile diagonally for a diamond look. Learn more ways to play with layout ideas for your home with our blog "6 Creative Subway Tile Designs for Your Home"
Old Copper Kitchen Backsplash
Want that beautiful antique green look while remaining bold? Our Old Copper glaze is sure to make you swoon. This rich green glaze color has hints of blue and patina throughout. Similar to the bathroom glaze Blue Opal, this glaze has high variation and each install will be one-of-a-kind based on the making process. We love the way this glaze works with the exposed brick and how it was paired with gold accents for a gorgeous color contrast.
They topped off this install perfectly with open shelving, which we love because it shows off all of the beautiful tile. Learn more ways to use open shelving with tile by reading our blog "Tile + Open Shelving: A Match Made in Heaven"
