Before and After
Here’s a glimpse of the before and after photos, as well as the process in between!

The modern white cabinets with gold accents completely brightens up the space, while the white to blue fade of the tile backsplash keeps the interest of exciting color! By continuing the cabinets and Moroccan style kitchen wall tiles around the corner and incorporating a white stove in the design, the whole space is unified and intentional in the aesthetic. The reflective granite countertop also illuminates the space and provides a subtle but gorgeous reflection of the fish scale tile!

The Moroccan Fish Scales come on mesh-mounted, interlocking sheets to make the installation process very straightforward.
You can see what the tile looks like as it is glued to the wall, but not grouted yet.
Q&A with the interior designer
We asked the interior designer, Michelle Gage, some questions about her process and what led her to choose Moroccan Fish Scales. Here’s what she had to say!
What made you want to redo your kitchen?
The potential! When we moved in, we had our eye on an eventual kitchen update. It was a large space, making it the largest eyesore in the house. We wanted to live in it for a few years so we could really think about our needs and wants for the room. At one point, we were going to include an island. However, after living in the space, we learned that we liked how open it was. We could both easily be in the kitchen together, cooking while our dog begged for scraps. What were the biggest decision factors in choosing backsplash tile with Mercury Mosaics?
We knew we wanted Moroccan Fish Scale tiles. The only ones we could find were a nasty brown color. We wanted something colorful. Basically, we knew what we wanted but couldn’t find it out there. We came across Mercury Mosaic’s site and HAD TO HAVE IT! We could get our shape in whatever color we wanted. We had too many colors to choose from, so we picked 4, instead of one like we originally planned on.How did you decide on your shape and color?
We selected about a dozen swatches and then narrowed it down to 4. We wanted the design to mimic ocean waves and also work with the navy tone we had in mind for the walls. Since we were going with white cabinets, we wanted the backsplash to bring the WOW and really POP in the space. What’s your favorite part of your kitchen now?
Can I say everything? It really was a labor of love. It started with a design concept. Then we began sourcing everything for the space. We took our time making selections. We knew that we didn’t want to be doing another renovation any time soon, so we invested where necessary. My husband, Alex, did all of the work himself, which makes it all the more special. That being said, if we went with a basic backsplash, the kitchen wouldn’t look nearly as good as it does today. So, everything, but the backsplash is leading the pack.

How perfect are these ceramic measuring cups from Anthropologie! They’ve got a similar vibe of color gradation with blues and greens as the backsplash tile.
