Tile Artisan

Monday – Friday, in-person
Rate: $17.50/hour
Summary:
We are looking for a Tile Artisan that will work in our NE Minneapolis production studio, turning clay into handmade artisan tile. You will be cross trained in all our tile manufacturing functions including tilemaking, glazing, kiln work, layout, samples and shipping, and will then focus on one or two specific phases of production. This position is hourly, non-exempt and starts at $17.50/hour.
What you’ll do:
- Follow procedures and daily tasks as stated in phase training guides.
- Tilemaking Phase: Forming raw clay and hand cutting tiles.
- Glazing Phase: Using brushes to hand glaze each tile.
- Kilns Phase: Loading and unloading kilns, counting and inspecting tiles for quality.
- Layout Phase: Mesh mounting individual tiles.
- Shipping Phase: Packaging and labeling tile orders to prepare them for shipping.
- Partner or assist with other Phases as needed.
- Follow safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain and be a part of a friendly environment that values diversity and inclusiveness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you’ll have:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a production/manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Ability to solve practical problems including basic math, using common sense and working independently.
- Ability to remain organized and keep a clean work area.
- Demonstrate excellent attendance record and reliability.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly, 50 lbs occasionally.
- Pinching, gripping, lifting, bending and actively performing repetitive wrist motions.
