Floor to Wall Tile Transition Ideas

Floor to Wall Tile Transition Ideas

What's better than one tiled surface? Two tiled surfaces! With 12 shapes and 130 glaze colors, the options are endless for making the perfect floor to wall transition. whether you continue a single tile pattern from floor to wall or mix it up with two different patterns, you can't go wrong. Here are some of our favorite ways to transition from wall to floor with handmade tile...

1. Fireplaces

Fireplaces are meant to be the center of attention. So, why not give them the attention they deserve? This is the perfect place to show off a tiled hearth and fireplace surround. Take this Art Deco inspired fireplace for example. This highlight is now the centerpiece of not only the room, but the entire house as you can see it from the front door. Designer, Emily Meszkat, created a big visual impact by having the pink and purple Moroccan Fish Scale move from the floor to the wall.

2. Pick a Pattern

One of our favorite things to do is mix patterns and shapes. Choose a fun pattern for the floor and pair it with a standard shape for the wall. This concept is especially true when it comes to small spaces such as bathrooms. Choosing a small tile and repetitive design will help make a space appear larger. This Pencil Shavings powder room executed this concept flawlessly.

3. Go with the Flow

Installed by the amazing AI Industrial, this tiled portal lives at Bluestone Lane Coffee and Flower Shop in West Hollywood. This magical space is covered with tile on all four walls which creates a cascading waterfall effect. This inspirational design has many elements that can translate into an everyday impactful design.

When transitioning from wall to floor with the same shape, let the tile flow seamlessly as if the piece of tile is wrapping around the corner. This creates the illusion that the tile is flowing from one surface to the next.

I love your tiles and we still have to do up the bathroom but we … don’t have money for that right now and we refuse to borrow any.
