We are so excited to introduce one of our favorite renovations to date. We had the honor of working with the amazing Brownstone Boys to renovate a South Park Slope Row House and we couldn’t be more excited to share the ins and outs of this entry way floor. Continue reading to learn why this project is so near and dear to our hearts.
Brooklyn locals, Jordan and Barry are total experts when it comes to renovation, restoration and design. They bought a 130 year old Brooklyn Brownstone and have been slowly going through the process of restoring it and to put simply, that’s no small feat. While paying close attention to their home’s pure and honest charm, they’ve been carefully choosing quality materials and studying the details of historic craftsmanship to stay true to the integral architecture of a Brooklyn Brownstone home. Learning about the amount of care and detail that goes into a Brownstone Boys project, we were more than thrilled to get the ball rolling on one of their projects to restore a historic South Park Slope Row House entry way floor.
Homeowners Jack & Melissa wanted something special for their entryway. Like all entryways, it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the home so something special was a must. They wanted something polished with a vintage feel to honor their home's traditional roots. They also wanted something with a mid-century modern feel yet durable quality. Luckily we had just the thing...
Known for their polished yet rustic allure, Craftsman Squares give off a pureness that goes totally unmatched. Their historically celebrated quality, integral lines and honest charm was the perfect vibe for this entryway floor.
One of our favorite parts of this project was working with Jordan and Barry to lock down a color palette. We get way too excited when clients are inspired by a specific landscape or moment in time because we believe that almost anything can be translated into tile. Whether it’s an autumn landscape, snowy mountain range or field of wild flowers, we want to help create that with ceramics!
For this particular project, the homeowners were inspired from their travels to Italy and wanted the palette to have a Tuscan feel. We played with a variety of glaze colors including traditionally Tuscan deep reds, golds, olive greens, and ochres but landed on one custom blend that we just couldn't resist.
Needless to say, we were totally floored by the results. This light-filled entryway is definitely something to write home about. From the perfectly added arched entrance with high wooden double doors to the minimalist white walls contrasted with the colorful floor, this vestibule is one for the books. The Brownstone Boys are true craftsmen when it comes to designing a detailed space and we are so happy that our handmade tile fit right in to the mix.
