7 Modern Ways to Mix and Match Tile Shapes

7 Modern Ways to Mix and Match Tile Shapes

Mixed, matched, yet perfectly coordinated. One of our favorite ways to create a modern mosaic look is by mixing our tile shapes. This technique creates stunning geometric looks that range from bold to sophisticated. Whether you're getting tile ideas for your kitchen backsplash, a statement floor, or a shower, this blog will inspire you to have fun with your tile shape choices.

Here are 7 Modern Ways to Mix and Match Tile Shapes:

1. Hexagons Mosaic + Subway Mix Tile

Your bathroom is a fun place to mix and match tile shapes because there are multiple surfaces to contrast shapes- the floor, walls, backsplash, and niches! In this project, we contrasted bright blue Subway Tile shower walls with a retro Hexagon Flower Pattern floor. This look will add interest and space to a small area, while keeping the general style classic.

2. Triangles + Square Mix Tile

Get the look of trendy cement tile with the durability of ceramic tile by mixing and matching triangles and squares. Cement tiles are typically intricate geometric patterns that can look either Southwestern or Moroccan depending on how you style the space. Our triangles are a custom shape with endless possibilities. Ask someone from our sales team to help create your own brilliant pattern.

3. Diamonds + Hexagon Mix Tile

We adore this mix tile pattern because of how our Medium Diamonds fit perfectly within our Large Hexagons when laid out. It's a pleasing geometric design that's extremely popular with our clients right now. Best part? There's no customization charge for this design, it will be priced out as standard tile. (Puppy not included).

4. Mosaic Diamonds + Subway Tile

This stunning kitchen backsplash almost breaks our Instagram account every time we post about it. This unique tile shape is inspiring and not as difficult to achieve as it may look. We started by designing a custom ombre mosaic using Subway Tile that transitions into Diamonds. The tile was then laid out in our studio and cut down  into easy-to-install mesh sheets. The sheets are numbered and a map is made, making install a breeze.

5. Bubble Tile Mosaic + Subway Mix Tile

Nothing is quite as fun as an organic transition of Bubbles into Subway Tile. We call them Bubble rivers because of their flowing effect. Go simple with one color, or create a rainbow of glazes for a brilliant design.

7. Moroccan Fish Scale Niche + Subway Mix Tile

Sometimes the simplest contrasts make the biggest impacts. We encourage all of our clients to consider the possibility of adding a niche to their shower. Using a contrasting shape in your niche brings a stylish and curated aesthetic that will radiate throughout your entire bathroom. This is also a great way to integrate our pricier shapes that you love but may not be in budget. Most niches only require 2.5 sq. ft. of tile.
